An Olive Story Spanning Generations Since 1867
Masmana is a family-owned brand whose roots reach deep into the ancient olive-growing lands of Kilis. Our name comes from the word “masmana,” once used in the Kilis region to describe places where soap and olive oil were produced.
Our connection with olives did not begin in our childhood; in fact, it goes back much further. Our family’s journey in olive cultivation and viticulture began in Kilis during the second half of the 19th century.
Our great-grandfathers, Hüseyin (1867–1931) and Ahmet (1886–1929), were prominent growers in olive cultivation and viticulture, two of the region’s most important sources of livelihood. Their devotion to the land, hard work, and production shaped the generations that followed.
Our grandfathers, Ali (1910–1992) and Ahmet (1913–1981), carried this legacy forward with the same care and dedication. Although viticulture became more prominent in Kilis over time, our family never abandoned olive cultivation.
Our fathers, Neşet (1940–2020) and Duran (1938–2019), also placed olives at the heart of their work, just as the generations before them had done. For many years, they devoted themselves to supporting the development of olive cultivation in Kilis, protecting the groves, and preserving the region’s culture of production. Every harvest we carry out at Masmana today bears the traces of this dedication and the knowledge of production passed down from one generation to the next. We are deeply grateful to our elders for leaving us such a valuable legacy.
Our connection with olive oil is also rooted in the scents, harvests, and family tables of our childhood in the groves. As fourth-generation farmers in Kilis, we cultivate Kilis Yağlık, the region’s native olive variety, and carry the heritage entrusted to us by our family into the future through a modern approach to production.
Approximately 4,000-year-old olive stones discovered during excavations at Oylum Höyük in Kilis reveal that olive culture has flourished in this land for thousands of years. At Masmana, we see ourselves not only as the present-day representatives of this long story, but also as its custodians.
Today, we harvest the olives grown in the Masmana Groves early, process them without delay, and closely oversee every stage of production. Our aim is not only to produce exceptional olive oil, but also to preserve the soil, craftsmanship, and olive-growing culture of Kilis in every bottle.
Masmana is more than a family heritage passed down from the past. It is a philosophy of production that we carefully uphold today and aspire to carry into the future.
With every harvest, we renew our respect for the soil, olives, and labour of Kilis, striving to preserve the character of this unique land in every bottle.
We set out to contribute to this story, which was started to be written by our grandfathers. We hope those who come after us continue our mission, as members of families producing olives. Growing up in olive groves in a geography where olive oil is used in daily life, from nutrition to health and even childcare, forms the basis of our respect for this sacred tree.Masmana’s struggle is to deliver this miraculous product, which we grow in our own fields, directly to your tables. As Masmana, we continue to work to leave small traces in life in the shadow of the olive trees that we try to grow with our love.
Praise be to this tree, which has been our source of health, peace, and livelihood for 4 generations. Praise be to our God, who bestowed upon us this sacred tree, which has many benefits, including delaying aging in humans.
